Appearance

Drawings of Var: My own art of them is here and commissioned art is here.

Height and overall appearance: Height wise, they’re quite short. More or less 5 foot nothing. In terms of build and features and their general appearance, the most apt word for them would be “dainty”. Although they also have an air about them that tends to make people nervous.

Facial features and hair: a face shape that could be called “heart shaped” if you were taking a few liberties with the description, thin and somewhat severe eyebrows, eyes with irises which are a strikingly bright yellow-gold save for a ring of cloudy blue-green nearest the outer edge of the iris, a nondescript nose that might vaguely be described as roman, and long eyelashes. Lips neither particularly thin nor particularly full. Pale skin which would have had freckles pre-Neath. A widow’s peak, and dark brown hair. When their hair isn’t singed into unevenness from incautious study of the Correspondence, it looks a lot like they handed a portrait of Liszt to a barber and asked for his exact haircut.

Clothing: They’re usually dressed neatly, but of anything they’ve been doing, they’re likely to look most disheveled from studying the Correspondence. Think coat left off, shirt sleeves pushed back, minus a tie, collar unbuttoned and likely bearing scorch marks in places. Other than that they tend to be well turned-out, if sometimes a little overdressed for visiting the rougher areas of the city. They’ve wisely invested in kingscale boots for more dangerous activities, and happen to have Anarchist’s Sable for any dirty work, but still wear white dancing slippers or other soft-soled shoes and white or pastel coloured clothing most of the time.

Hands: They have fairly slender and delicate looking hands with long fingers, as far as proportions go, but the glimpses anyone gets of said hands on the rare occasion they aren’t wearing gloves show their palms and fingers to be rougher than expected, with many fairly nasty burn scars from incautious handling of Correspondence plates, particularly on the heel of the hand and their fingertips. Their left hand is worse, with extensive burn scars resulting in somewhat reduced mobility. The rest of the callouses are from archaeological digs. Despite that, their nails are short but well-kept, with an eye to neatness.

Scars and tattoos: Not that they’re likely to wear clothing that would show any of it off, but they have a very faded scar on their forearm from a run in with the eater-of-chains, and a few other scattered, gash-like scars on their arms from fighting spider-councils and sorrow spiders, and one on their left leg from falling into their own spike pit while preparing to hunt said spider councils. A few scars on their back from bullet wounds, too. Regardless of the number, the wounds seem to have healed up fine. They also have two spy tattoos, one on each upper arm, though one of them looks like it was reworked from something else. They have a very particular tattoo of a lotus and rose on the inside of their right wrist. On their back, at the base of their neck/top of their spine, they have the sigil of the Correspondence that means “Dare” tattooed on them in violant ink.

Weapons: They tend to have a ravenglass knife (very carefully) hidden on their person, but rarely draw it.
